Excuse Me Doesn't Mean You Can Keep Walking

I am a courteous person and I almost always move out of the way when people say "Excuse Me", but when they say excuse me and just keep walking in your direction and then grunt at you when you don't jump out of the way and they almost knock you over it just Irks me! Yesterday in Sears and I was trying on shoes and the aisles were very narrow. I had just finished putting away the shoes I was trying on and was returning my shoes to my feet and an older lady behind me said excuse me and continued walking as though she was going to walk into me and then she grunted when I didn't move. I would gladly move out of the way but I need to be in the position where I can safely do so. I was bending over and if I moved I would have tripped and fallen on my face. As I finally moved I turned around and she gave me a dirty look. So I decided to tell her "if you waited one minute I would have moved out of the way safely I was putting my shoes on and couldn't move without tripping". She then replied "Well I said Excuse Me!". Really I didn't realize that it meant that if you say excuse me it means that no matter what and no matter if it would cause you to trip I had to move. I always let other people go when they need to get by, I always am courteous but in this case I think she really should have been patient and waited a moment. All she was doing was browsing the shoe aisle she was not in a shoe emergency. Come on people be patient and wait a minute when you say "Excuse Me."

Don't You Know You Are Going to Cause A Pile Up

You know when you are on an escalator and the person in front of you doesn’t seem to realize that they need to move away when they get to the destination floor they want. In order to be safe you should move away from the top or bottom when you get off right? Well it just irks me when people who decide to use the escalator and they seem to be in dream land then when they reach their destination they just stop. No movement nothing. Are they trying to determine where they are or where they want to go maybe jewelry or women’s clothing? If this is the case then move away because guess what you are going to cause an accident. The people behind you on the escalator cannot stop. The escalator itself is not going to wait until you are done deciding where you want to go in the department store. The next person behind you is going to end up right on top of you and so is the person after them.

I use to work at a Sears Department Store in the New York area and this used to happen all the time. The funny thing is there were only two floors so they should have known where they were. It was not that hard to figure out. So all of you who need to figure out where you are or where you are going after you step off an escalator please step aside so that you don't cause a pile up.
